Can't keep up with the new, hot, and hip on your coast? Us either. That's why we created this: From technology to fashion, we're your one stop shop for the latest in coastal trends.
Welcome to week two of East coast trends! Let’s see what’s been happening…
Two hot topics in politics this past week have been:
1) Hilary Clinton’s potential run for office; and
2) Monday night’s deadline for the House and Senate to reach a consensus on the Affordable Care Act
Hilary Clinton for President, maybe?: Let’s be honest, we all saw this coming. Hilary’s continued success and poise during her career in politics with respect from both the public and her peers has created a solid platform for her as a potential front runner in the 2016 elections. No confirmation yet on whether she’ll do it but with all of the questions, middle-of-the-road responses, and coverage I foresee an answer coming down the pike very, very soon…
See what she’s saying about it now: http://www.cnn.com/2013/09/22/politics/hillary-clinton-magazine-interview/index.html
Possible Government Shutdown: There has been a lot leading up to this moment but here’s your need-to-know info for what will happen Monday night without a consensus. “Failure to pass a funding bill would close down much of the government for the first time since 1996. More than a million federal employees would be furloughed from their jobs, with the impact depending on the duration of a shutdown.” Check out the full article and timeline of events here.
In entertainment this week I have to piggy-back off my co-blogger here because Miley Cyrus is tearin’-it-up! We all saw the VMAs where 20 or so scarier than TED, teddy bears performed with Miley Cyrus and social media blew up over the never before seen utilization of the foam finger. Miley has gone from a bubbly teen Disney star to a fierce mega pop icon and grown seriously in her vocal abilities. So trending this week is the chatter and uproar about Miley Cyrus’s evolution through stardom. Hear more from her…
Also, if you haven’t heard Wrecking Ball and you need a new top 40s jam, this is it:
I also could not leave this segment without sharing with you an epic video that was shared with me this week. You know how hash tagging was only on Twitter and thanks to Jack Dorsey, there is now a whole ‘Twitter speak’ rampant among communication departments and teenagers (ok, I do it too) everywhere? Well, that’s what this hilarious video featuring @jtimberlake and @jimmyfallon is all about. Take a look 🙂
So, we have to address this East and West coast fashion dichotomy which could be stereotypically described as sharp Euro vs. hip casual. Let’s take a look that the analysis:
Ok, my description is clearly lacking but this one says it all…”it’s mainly celebrity driven fashion on the West Coast, versus the fashion industry on the East Coast.” Tory Burch, Long Champ, Prada, Chanel – it’s the brand name that counts here folks. I think Rosalyn would agree that while brand names matter in the West, if you’re resourceful enough to find the same outfit as Jessica Alba at a thrift shop and rock it well, you’re just as style-rich as she.
But what about those fashion trends we’ve seen that should never, ever be worn or mimicked?
Check these out and see if you agree:
Ok so it is STILL EVERYWHERE, you know who (or what, rather) I’m talking about. Apple. Trending this past week is people trying to avoid any topic of conversation that involves iOS7. Though now talk and text conversations have shifted to applications. For any product or service our heart desires there’s always, yes, we know. An app for that. But how about an app that can read your mind? Thanks to Twilight and (team) Edward for inspiring:
I’d feel like I was doing you all a disservice not to also report that Apple has come out with new desktops. Want to get your hands on one? They range from $1,299 to $1,999 – find out more details here.
Trending in the world of non-profits is something that started a couple of years ago and is now more than ever being done effectively to move people to take positive action. Info-graphics “are graphic visual representations of information, data or knowledge intended to present complex information quickly and clearly.” There is an organization called @StayClassy at which some fantastic and dedicated people work who have outlined several awesome info-graphics that should coincidentally also inspire you to give back 🙂

Before I begin on my end, I have something to share with my favorite DCer.
If you’re in DC, there are bachelors!
Welcome back to the West Coast and thanks to Sara for doing such a great job keeping us up to date on the East! I saw someone wearing the t-shirt below this week and thought how fitting with our blog. An Ebay steal for men:
Now let’s see what else is #trending!
I’m amazed at Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and his 21 hours on the Senate floor in protest of Obamacare. GOP candidate 2014 for President? I’m calling this one now.
What I love the most is seeing people that work for these politicians, the ones that get no attention at all but do so much of the work.
This week, my favorite BuzzFeed goes out to John Ellis or as he was seen, the guy in the corner of the screen with Sen. Ted Cruz on CSPAN!
Entertainment is my favorite topic, and this week Sara hit the nail on the head bringing up Miley and JT/Jimmy Fallon.
All of them are very talked about and trending like no other out here. Between those three and “Breaking Bad” ending tonight, I’m not sure we can add anything else to popular culture. I’m going to try at least! This past weekend I saw the local band “Michael Mercury” play and thought they were amazing. Michael is a gem of a talent and should be #trending. His EP came out today, and I’m a fan.
Thanks for the CD Michael! For all of you who want to listen to someone new and who I think will really be up and coming soon, check him out!

As promised, I am going to share my favorite female and male ensemble from the #Emmys!
Now before I share my take, I want you to read the take of a 7-year-old.
I couldn’t help but agree with everything this 7-year-old said.
So after looking closely at everyone (thanks for the link Sara),
My vote goes to:
I know the 7-year-old said this looks like 2 dresses, but I can’t help but like the contrast. She looks very classy and like she’s about to win a big award! Congrats Anna!
Also, let’s note that Sophia Vergara was the most talked about and stunned as well. She definitely did not wear her Kmart collection!
As for the best dressed male, I’m starting to think that all tuxedos look the same. The suit makes the man or is that just a Mens Warehouse commercial?
I went to E! Online to see who they thought was the best dressed male.
This is Jimmy Fallon’s week! I vote for him. Seriously though, do guys reuse their tuxedos for these shows? I wouldn’t even notice! Credit: Kevin Winter/Getty Images
This week, Adrian Grenier’s public Facebook had a post with an invention that I found to be incredibly innovative.
My favorite roles of Adrian’s include his role in “Drive Me Crazy” with Melissa Joan Hart and his part in “Entourage”, and I’m glad I follow him on Facebook for posts like this one.
Behold an iPhone charger that you can charge with your hands!
I saw this Soul Pancake video on Upworthy, and it really made think about happiness.
I love this idea of expressing gratitude and increasing your own happiness.
Now I don’t want to spoil the end result here, but I want to go express some gratitude right now.
On that note of happiness, I want to thank you for reading and staying with us as we bring you more of what we’re seeing each and every week!
Until next week,
